Peter Corris
Peter Corris was born in country Victoria in 1942, grew up and was educated in Melbourne, but moved to Sydney in 1976 and considers himself a naturalised New South Welshman. After almost 30 years as a full-time writer, with over 50 fiction, and more than a dozen non-fiction titles published, he remains as enthusiastic about the profession as ever. He has published in a wide range of genres and areas from crime, spy and historical novels to young adult fiction; from a collection of short stories about golf to co-writing the autobiography of Australia’s ‘secular saint’, the late Professor Fred Hollows. He has edited short story collections and anthologies on golf and boxing.
His long-running and widely-loved series about Sydney private detective Cliff Hardy continues. Regarded as the ‘godfather’ of Australian crime writing, Corris can scarcely contemplate life without writing. The most recent Cliff Hardy book, Torn Apart, was published in January 2010. Next in the series is Follow the Money.
Peter lives with his wife, writer and teacher, Jean Bedford. They have three daughters and three grandsons.
Fellow Aussie crime writer, Shane Maloney, recently published a profile on Peter in Inside Story Link Text.
