Sylvia Johnson

Sylvia Johnson was born in Sydney in 1958 and grew up in Mosman and the Blue Mountains – and in Malaysia where she lived in the 1990s. She learned to love stories as a very young child by listening to story-tellers; initially her big sister late into the night in the bedroom they shared as children; and later anyone at all who showed the slightest inclination to stop and chat for a while. She admits to being a compulsive miner of other people’s lives.

She’s written for film and TV and had stories in magazines. Callie and the Prince, her children’s novel, was published in 1996, by Pan MacMillan. Watch Out For Me, her first adult novel, set in Sydney, Morocco and Italy, was published by Allen & Unwin in September 2011.

Our Father Heart is her second novel and deals with love, war and dislocation – and the importance of knowing who you are.
