Sylvia Johnson was born in Sydney in 1958 and grew up in Mosman and the Blue Mountains – and in Malaysia where she lived in the 1990s. She learned to love stories as a very young child by listening to story-tellers; initially her big sister late into the night in the bedroom they shared as children; and later anyone at all who showed the slightest inclination to stop and chat for a while. She admits to being an appalling miner of other people’s lives.
She’s written for film and TV and had stories in magazines. Callie and the Prince, her children’s novel, was published in 1996, by Pan MacMillan. Watch Out For Me is her first adult novel and is set in Sydney, Morocco and Italy. It was published by Allen & Unwin in September 2011.
Sylvia is married to the man she fell in love with thirty-odd years ago, and they have two grown-up children – both of them storytellers.
